Camp Bennett
Located on 220 scenic acres in beautiful Brookeville, Maryland, Camp Bennett serves as a residential summer camp for financially underprivileged children from all over the Washington, D.C. area. In 1934, the Women's Guild of Central Union Mission funded the Mission's purchase of a local farm that would serve as a summer camp for inner-city children. Every summer for seven fun-filled weeks, Christian counselors and scores of volunteers lead hundreds of elementary school-aged children through life-changing Bible programs. Children who have never been away from the streets are able to experience the joys of an old fashioned camp fire and a whole lot more.
Camp Activities
High and low rope courses, swimming pool, gymnasium, nature trails, playground, arts and craft and group campfires are just a portion of the camp programs.
Children's Ministry
The mission's outreach to children reaches beyond the camp right into the streets where they live. In December we give a Christmas Bag Party and in August a Back Pack Giveaway Party at the mission. We are able to match donors to each child. Hundreds of needy families receive Christmas presents and school supplies. This may be the only time they hear of God's love and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
