I grew up in Southeast DC with my mother and nine brothers and sisters. As a single parent, my mother turned to Central Union Mission for help. I was five years old the first time I attended Camp Bennett. At Camp Bennett we sang songs about Jesus - songs about His faithfulness that would carry me through tough times ahead.

My siblings and I had no idea the impact Camp Bennett would have on our lives. The Lord began to put a deep desire in my heart to teach. Last year, I served as a camp counselor, and this year I am going to be the Senior Girls’ Counselor! If it wasn’t for God using Camp Bennett to plant seeds, there is no telling how I would have ended up. Thank you for sponsoring children and giving them a chance to make a difference in life.

 Love, Vonice

ANNOUNCEMENT:  Camp Bennett’s summer camp program will not take place in 2019 while we work to improve all aspects of the camp program for the future.  We plan to re-open summer camp during the 2020 season with a revitalized program.

Camp Bennett

Camp Bennett is a ministry of Central Union Mission, but the Mission's outreach to children is even bigger. In August, we provide new backpacks and school supplies through Operation Back Pack. Our Operation Christmas Miracle makes sure that our children have the only gifts they will receive this Christmas.

At these special programs, they will hear of God's love and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Their families also receive free clothing and household goods and free groceries at our Family Ministry Center. We make sure that God’s “least of these” don’t fall through the cracks.

Your gifts to Camp Bennett and Central Union Mission change the lives of hundreds of Washington, DC, area children.

Dear Mission friends,

For over 75 years, Central Union Mission has had the privilege of operating a residential summer camp program serving thousands of disadvantaged children. Our goal is to provide a camp experience that helps children hear the Gospel message while enjoying fun activities and experiencing nature.

In order to ensure that Camp Bennett both provides campers a great experience and is sustainable in the future, we are taking a year off to assess and improve our camp’s strategic plan, facilities and operations. During this temporary closure we will upgrade our program to better serve the children and families we minister to in the future. We plan to reopen Camp Bennett during the 2020 season with a revitalized program and refreshed facilities.

We regret any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and hope you will continue to engage with us through the other opportunities the Mission offers.
