For Friends

and Donors

You remember summer camp—meeting new friends, living close to nature, maybe even being away from home for the first time. For our campers, it’s a week of fun. They don’t realize (as you have!) that it is much more: their camp experiences are building them a foundation of friendship, loyalty, self-confidence and trust in Jesus.

Unfortunately, summer camp can be very expensive. Unemployed and underemployed Washington, DC, parents are struggling to provide for their families, so there’s no money for camp. Children face a hot summer on the city streets. That’s where you can help.

Families do make a minimal contribution of $20 per camper, but we need your compassionate gifts to cover the rest of the costs. For a gift of only $375 (or $75 a day), you or your group can send one child to camp for a week.

With your help, one child will be able to live in safety, eat nutritious meals, hike in the woods, meet his or her first farm animal and sing praise songs around a roaring camp fire. One child will learn about God’s endless love and His plan for his or her future.

Camp Bennett

Camp Bennett is a ministry of Central Union Mission, but the Mission's outreach to children is even bigger. In August, we provide new backpacks and school supplies through Operation Back Pack. Our Operation Christmas Miracle makes sure that our children have the only gifts they will receive this Christmas.

At these special programs, they will hear of God's love and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Their families also receive free clothing and household goods and free groceries at our Family Ministry Center. We make sure that God’s “least of these” don’t fall through the cracks.

Your gifts to Camp Bennett and Central Union Mission change the lives of hundreds of Washington, DC, area children.

I grew up in Southeast DC with my mother and nine brothers and sisters. As a single parent, my mother turned to Central Union Mission for help. I was five years old the first time I attended Camp Bennett. At Camp Bennett we sang songs about Jesus - songs about His faithfulness that would carry me through tough times ahead.

My siblings and I had no idea the impact Camp Bennett would have on our lives. The Lord began to put a deep desire in my heart to teach. Last year, I served as a camp counselor, and this year I am going to be the Senior Girls’ Counselor! If it wasn’t for God using Camp Bennett to plant seeds, there is no telling how I would have ended up. Thank you for sponsoring children and giving them a chance to make a difference in life.

 Love, Vonice
